Saint Louis – The 300 members of the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA) hosted their tenth annual Golden Scroll Awards Banquet at the Crowne Plaza St. Louis Downtown, Sunday, June 27 th , where they awarded the Golden Scroll Awards for Publisher, Editor, Fiction Editor and AWSA Member of the Year as well as their Lifetime Achievement Award and the Beyond Me Award.
The Golden Scroll Awards go to editors and publishing houses best demonstrating outstanding ministry partnerships with their authors. This year’s AWSA Golden Scroll Publisher of the Year Award went to Tyndale House. Author Pam Farrel said, “ Tyndale is a joy to work with because of their vision to reach the world and their dedication to make God’s word readily accessible through quality materials. They treat authors like family.”
The AWSA Golden Scroll Editor of the Year Award went to Lonnie Hull DuPont of Baker Publishing Group. Author Mary Tatem said, “ Lonnie offers genuine friendship and inspires confidence that helps bring out the best in my writing.”
The AWSA Golden Scroll Fiction Editor of the Year Award was presented to Sue Brower of Zondervan. Novelist DiAnn Mills says, “ Sue is a professional extraordinaire. My experience with her expertise has rewarded me with a deepening of the craft and motivation to excel in the field of publishing. An added plus is I can call her a friend.”
The AWSA Golden Scroll AWSA Member of the Year Award was presented to Rhonda Rhea. AWSA founder Linda Evans Shepherd says, “Rhonda is not only an author and speaker extraordinaire, she lovingly inspires and serves her colleagues in our joint mission to reach the world for Christ.”
The Golden Scroll Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Sally Stuart by Susan Titus Osborn. Susan said, “Sally has selflessly contributed to the Christian publishing community by compiling and editing The Christian Writer’s Market Guide for 25 years; a remarkable achievement. Though she deserves a gold watch, we are instead giving her our highest Golden Scroll award. May Sally never retire from her mission to serve both authors and publishers.”
In addition, Kathi Macias presented the first Beyond Me Award to author Rebekah Montgomery. Kathi said, “ Rebekah Montgomery, the seventh of eight children and a “preacher’s kid,” received Jesus as her Savior at the age of three—and never looked back. Her servant’s heart and passion for Jesus has led her to preach and minister to countless people around the globe, without concern for self-recognition or personal reward.”
Author and actress Nancy Stafford keynoted the banquet with author Pam Farrel serving as the emcee. Gwen E. Smith performed the special music, including a parody dedicated to the editors and publishers written by humorist Martha Bolton. Following the dessert reception, the producer of Blind Side, Lani Netter, shared insider secrets with the AWSAs and their guests.

Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA) announced their 2011 winners for the Golden Scroll Awards, Sunday, July 10 th, at the Omni at CNN Center in Atlanta. Honored for outstanding ministry partnership with their authors, the Golden Scroll Publisher of the Year winner went to Discovery House. “ Although small in comparison to other houses, Discovery House demonstrates an enormous capacity to serve the Lord,” said author Penny Monetti.
The Editor of the Year winner went to Terry Glaspey of Harvest House Publishers. Author Connie Cavanaugh said of Terry, “Regardless of whether he is dealing with an author who sells in the millions or in the thousands, he treats us all with dignity, respect and love.”
The Fiction Editor of the Year winner went to Tyndale House Publisher’s Jan Stob. Jeanette Windle said of Stob, “She encourages, motivates, and cheers me on in my writing, but what I most appreciate is that when I think I’ve turned in a good book, she won’t let me rest until it’s an excellent one.”
The 2011 Golden Scroll book awards Novel of the Year went to Kathi Macias for Red Ink (New Hope Publishers), a gripping novel loosely based on a true story about a young Chinese woman who is forced to abort her second child, and eventually goes to prison for her faith.
The Nonfiction Book of the Year went to Margot Starbuck for The Girl in the Orange Dress (IVP Books), a cleverly written, poignant memoir regarding the author’s search for a true “father who does not fail.”
Becky Harling was named AWSA Member of the Year. AWSA founder Linda Evans Shepherd said, “Becky is both an abuse and cancer survivor. She inspires audiences, readers as well as our own prayer team to spend time daily praising God.”
Kathi Macias presented The Beyond Me Award to Yvonne Ortega. Macias said, “Yvonne has been through many heartaches and trials, yet she continues to allow God to use her pain to minister to others. She is indeed a “beyond me” person, modeling a “you-first life in a me-first world.”
The 2011 Golden Scroll Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Patsy Clairmont.
Carol Kent said of Clairmont, “As a much loved keynote speaker at Women of Faith arena events, Patsy’s triumph over agoraphobia has opened doors for her to share God’s healing power through spoken and written words.”
Clairmont keynoted the event, with Linda Gilden as emcee. Authors Carol Kent and Linda Evans Shepherd presented the awards. Recording artist Gwen Smith performed a parody written by Martha Bolton and dedicated to editors and publishers.
Following the banquet, Hollywood screenwriting consultant Linda Seger discussed turning Christian books into movies. AWSA, an outreach of Right to the Heart Ministries, consists of over 300 top ICRS women authors who both publish and speak nationally. See www.AWSA.com.

AWSA Announces 2012 Golden Scroll Award Winners
Orlando, FL – The Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA) held their 12th Golden Scroll Awards Banquet Sunday, July 15th, at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando. Honored for outstanding ministry partnerships with their authors, the Golden Scroll Publisher of the Year went to Harvest House Publishers. Author Poppy Smith said of Harvest, “I’ve appreciated their enthusiasm and warm support of my recent book.”
The Golden Scroll Editor of the Year went to Kim Bangs, now of Regal Books. Author Vonda Skelton said of Bangs, “She is so much more than an editor. She’s a friend, prayer warrior, and sister in the Lord who loves to serve Him.”
The Golden Scroll Fiction Editor of the Year went to Julee Schwarzburg of Schwarzburg Editorial . Novelist Gayle Roper said, “Julee is a fabulous editor with a strong sense of story as well as a keen eye for the particulars that make a story zing.”
The Golden Scroll Award for Nonfiction Book of the Year went to Poppy Smith for Why Can’t He Be More Like Me (Harvest House Publishers). The AWSAs found Smith’s book both entertaining and informative as well as from her heart. The Golden Scroll Award for Novel of the Year went to Susan May Warren for Heiress (Summerside Press). The AWSAs recommend Heiress as a compelling novel about two sisters who discover that being an heiress might cost them the chance for true love. The Golden Scroll Award for the Inspiration and Gift Book of the year went to Mary Tatem for The Quilt of Life, A Patchwork of Inspirational Thoughts (Barbour Publishing). The AWSAs recommend the The Quilt of Life as a gem which weaves brilliant quotes throughout its pages.
The AWSA of the Year was presented by AWSA founder Linda Evans Shepherd to Pam Farrel. Shepherd said, “Pam has accomplished so much as and her husband founded both Love-Wise and Farrel Communications and also wrote 30 books, including Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti with over 300,000 sold.
The Beyond Me Award, presented by Kathi Macias, went to Jeanette Windle. Macias said, “No one better epitomizes a ‘beyond me’ life than Jeanette. She selflessly gives herself away, both at home and on the mission field, and abundantly blesses those she meets. I’m honored to know this devoted lady, and to call her my friend.”
The prestigious 2012 Golden Scroll Lifetime Achievement Award went to bestselling author and international radio personality June Hunt. Hunt is the founder and CEO of Hope for the Heart, a biblical counseling ministry with radio programs Hope for the Heart and Hope in the Night heard on 1000 outlets worldwide.
June Hunt was also the keynote speaker and recording artist Gwen Smith performed a parody written by Martha Bolton. After the banquet and dessert reception, Suzanne Kuhn, owner of SuzyQ, a full-service author promotion and retail development service, talked about ways to maximize book sales .

2009 WinnersOrlando – The 250 members of the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA) awarded the 2008 Golden Scroll Awards for Publisher, Editor, Fiction Editor and Member of the Year as well as their Lifetime Achievement Award, Sunday afternoon at the Rosen Centre in Orlando , Florida .
The Golden Scroll Awards go to editors and publishing houses best demonstrating outstanding ministry partnerships with their authors. This year’s AWSA Golden Scroll Publisher of the Year Award went to Crossway Books. Author Patricia A. Ennis said, “ They have an incredibly supportive staff and each person I interface with possesses a servant’s heart. They are quick to respond to my requests, gracious, and generous in the support of my writing endeavors.
The AWSA Golden Scroll Editor of the Year Award went to Philis Boultinghouse of Howard Books, a division of Simon and Schuster . Author Jill Rigby say, “Philis offers profound suggestions and her patience is endless. She allows me the privilege of sharing the exciting happenings of our ministry and rejoices with us.”
The AWSA Golden Scroll Fiction Editor of the Year Award was presented to Nick Harrison. Author Gail Roper says, “Nick Harrison, is personal and professional. He sticks-to-task when there’s work to do, yet isn’t afraid to be a “friend” as well as an editor.”
The AWSA Golden Scroll AWSA Member of the Year Award was presented to Kathi Macias. AWSA founder Linda Evans Shepherd says, “Though Kathi is a busy and successful author, she always has time to encourage other authors.”
The Golden Scroll Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Florence Littauer by Linda Evans Shepherd and President George W. Bush impersonator and author, John Morgan. Linda says, “ Florence has spent her life training those called by God to communicate from the platform and through published books. No other person within ICRS has contributed more of their life to helping develop the ministries of authors than Florence Littauer.”
Florence keynoted the banquet with author Jennifer Kennedy Dean serving as the emcee. Authors Rhonda Rhea and Linda Evans Shepherd presented the awards with recording artist Tamara Nashman performing the special music, including a parody dedicated to the editors and publishers and written by humorist Martha Bolton.

St. Louis, MO – The Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA) held their 13 th Golden Scroll Awards Banquet Sunday, June 23rd, at the Ramada Plaza in Saint Louis, MO. Honored for outstanding ministry partnerships with their authors, the Golden Scroll Publisher of the Year went to Crossway. Author Pat Ennis said, “Each member of Crossway’s team has a servant’s heart.”
The Golden Scroll Editor of the Year went to Sandra VanderZicht of Zondervan . New York Times bestselling author Lysa TerKeurst said, “ When I was stuck in my publishing career with low to average sales, Sandy saw a potential in me I never saw in myself. She helped me identify my voice, define my platform and engage a larger audience.”
The Golden Scroll Fiction Editor of the Year went to Vicki Crumpton of Baker Publishing Group. Novelist Eva Marie Everson said, “When I heard how wonderful it was to have Vicki Crumpton as an editor, I hoped and prayed that one day I’d know firsthand. When I got my chance–13 books ago–I discovered everything I’d heard was absolutely … true ! ”
The Golden Scroll Award for Nonfiction Book of the Year went Karen Whiting and Jocelyn Green for Stories of Faith and Courage from the Home Front (God & Country Press of AMG Publishers.) The AWSAs found these 365 true stories illustrating effective prayers, heroism, and daily courage inspiring. The Golden Scroll Award for Novel of the Year went to Jeanette Windle for Congo Dawn (Tyndale.) The AWSAs found Windle’s fast-paced novel set in the jungle wilderness of the Congo, a riveting tale with great twists. Congo Dawn vividly describes God’s refining process.
The AWSA of the Year was presented by AWSA founder Linda Evans Shepherd to Carol Kent. Shepherd said, “I’ve known Carol before God put the test in her testimony. Not only did Carol pass through her difficulties in God’s grace, she now leads others to do the same. She’s been an exemplary model to our authors, graciously giving her time and talents to encourage them.”

The Beyond Me Award, presented by Kathi Macias, went to Sue Badeau. Macias said, “ Sue Badeau is the perfect example of “beyond me” living as she and her husband have selflessly devoted their lives to raising not only their own two children by birth, but twenty more adopted children, including children with mental, physical, intellectual and emotional challenges.”
The prestigious 2013 Golden Scroll Lifetime Achievement Award went to Carole Lewis, the bestselling author and national director of First Place 4 Health, the Christ-centered healthy living program and a ministry of Houston’s First Baptist Church. Carole’s warmth, caring, and inspiring testimony encourage and inspire her readers as well as weight loss groups in over 12,000 churches.
Lysa TerKeurst was the keynote speaker and recording artist Lisa Troyer performed a parody written by Martha Bolton.

Murfreesboro, TN AWSA (Advanced Writers and Speakers Association) announced the winner of the 2017 Golden Scroll Lifetime Achievement Award at the opening banquet of the Munce Group’s Fall Christian Product Expo at the Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Honored for his lifetime of excellence of ministering the word of God, the Golden Scroll Lifetime Achievement Award went to Dr. Charles Stanley, 84, the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Atlanta, the two time President of the Southern Baptist Convention, the best-selling author of forty books and the founder of In Touch Ministries with television and radio shows as well as the In Touch devotional magazine discipling millions around the globe.
Linda Evans Shepherd, the founder of AWSA presented the award. Shepherd asked those gathered, “What is Dr. Stanley’s secret? In his personal biography, he explains that he models his ministry according to this message from Paul to the Ephesians, ‘Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God’s mighty kindness and love.’”
To the applause of the audience, Dr. Stanley later quipped, “I’m not finished yet!” He also shared how a Christian retailer had helped him purchase a leather-bound, Thompson Chain Reference Bible when he was a young man, ready to enter seminary. He said, “Little did this Christian retailer know the impact this Bible would have on my life and ministry.”
Dr. Stanley went on to praise Christian booksellers of the Munce Group for being on the front lines as they served God.
Linda Evans Shepherd shared, “It was wonderful to present our award to a man who has impacted millions for Christ. It was a joy to see Christian authors and booksellers give tribute to this great man who has done so much for the Kingdom of God.” For more information about AWSA see www.AWSA.com.
AWSA (Advanced Writers and Speakers Association) announced the winners of the 2017 Golden Scroll Awards at the Golden Scroll Banquet, Tuesday, June 27th at the Hilton Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Honored for outstanding ministry partnerships with their authors, the Golden Scroll Publisher of the Year Award went to Kregel Publishers. AWSA author Letitia Suk says of Kregel, “I’m proud to have Kregel’s name on my book and so grateful for their support and investment in me.”
Stephen Barcliff was named the winner of the Golden Scroll Non-Fiction Editor of the Year Award. Letitia Suk said, “Steve is sharp and smart about business, but always has time for his authors.”
The Fiction Editor of the Year was awarded to Lisa McCaskill of Pelican Book Group. AWSA author Robin Bayne said, “Lisa put a lot of dedicated effort into the re-release of my novel. She made the entire experience a breeze.”
The Golden Scroll Nonfiction Book of the Year Award went to Lynn Eib for Peace in the Face of Cancer from Tyndale House Publishers. The judges remarked, “A comforting, practical book about living with cancer by a survivor with a long time ministry to patients.”
Silver Scroll Merit Awards for Nonfiction went to Edie Melson for While My Child is Away from Worthy Inspired, Margot Starbuck and David King for Overplayed from Herald Press and Joy Schneider for How to Keep Grief from Stealing Your Destiny from Water of Life Unlimited.
The Golden Scroll Novel of the Year Award went to Cynthia Ruchti for Song of Silence from Abingdon Press. The judges described Ruchti’s novel as, “A stunning, beautiful, poetic, touching read.”
Golden Scroll Merit Awards for Fiction were also awarded to Martha Bolton for The Home Game from FaithHappenings Publishers, Lynette Eason for Without Warning from Revell and Edie Melson for Alone from Prism Book Group.
Silver Scroll Merit Awards for Fiction went to DiAnn Mills for Deadly Encounter from Tyndale House Publishers, Marilyn Turk for The Gilded Curse from Heritage Beacon Fiction and Lynette Eason for Moving Target from Revell.
The Golden Scroll Children’s Book of the Year was awarded to Crystal Bowman and Teri McKinley for Our Daily Bread for Preschoolers from Discovery House. The judges remarked, “This is an excellent book for teaching children ages 6 to 10 more about God.” The Golden Scroll Merit Award for Children’s Book of the Year went to Jeanne Dennis and Sheila Seifert for Bible Kid Adventures: Stories of Danger and Courage from Tyndale House Publishers.
AWSA’s official magazine, Leading Hearts, won their third straight Evangelical Press Association Merit award and honored their columnists including Pam Farrel, Michelle S. Cox, Rhonda Rhea, Penelope Carlevato, Saundra Dalton, Sharon Elliot, Kathy Collard Miller, Karen Porter, Karen Whiting and Cynthia Simmons.
The 2017 AWSA Member of the Year Award went to Suzanne Kuhn. AWSA founder Linda Evans Shepherd said, “Suzanne has so many hard-earned insights and gifts regarding building an author’s platform and she never hesitates to share her knowledge with her AWSA sisters.”
The Beyond Me Award went to Karynthia Phillips, a medical professional, who not only works with high-risk pregnancies in the prison population but works with women audiences through her mentoring, writing and speaking. The prestigious 2017 Impact Award was presented to Carol Kent. Shepherd says of Kent, “Carol has served the Lord through both tragedy and pain, and made such a difference for the cause of Christ.”
Carol Kent served as the keynote speaker and recording artist, Ginny Owens, performed the special music. AWSA President Karen Porter served as emcee. Authors Carol Kent and Linda Evans Shepherd presented the awards and AWSA member Jeanne Dennis performed a parody written by Martha Bolton dedicated to editors and publishers.

Honored for outstanding ministry partnerships with their authors, the Golden Scroll Publisher of the Year went to New Hope Publishers.
AWSA author Brenda Poinsett says of New Hope, “Their work isn’t just about publishing books; it’s about reaching men and women and boys and girls for Jesus Christ.”
Both Paul Muckley of Discovery House and Larry Weeden of Focus on the Family were named the winners of the Non-Fiction Editor of the Year. AWSA author Crystal Bowman says of Muckley, “I don’t know how he does it, but his editing is amazing.” Pam Farrel says of Weeden, “He is an affirming visionary, a godly man of both virtue and vision!”
The Fiction Editor of the Year was awarded to Andrea Doering of Revell of Baker Publishing Group. AWSA author Lynette Eason says of Doering, “She makes each of her authors feel special, not just because we write for her house, but because she cares.”
The Book of the Year Nonfiction Award went to Gayle Roper for A Widow’s Journey, Reflections on Walking Alone from Harvest House Publishers.
Golden Scroll Merit Awards for Nonfiction were also awarded to Shelly Beach and Wanda Sanchez for Love Letters from the Edge from Kregel Publications, Elaine Helms for Prayer Without Limits, Expanding Your Relationship with God from New Hope Publishers, Marti Pieper and Avis Goodhart for Out of the Dust: Story of an Unlikely Missionary from ANEKO Press, and Amy Simpson for her book Anxious: Choosing Faith in a World of Worry from IVP Books.

Silver Scroll Merit Awards for Fiction went to Gayle Roper for An Unexpected Match from Harvest House Publishers, Deborah Raney for Home to Chicory Lane from Abingdon Press, and Sarah Sundin for In Perfect Time from Revell of Baker Publishing Group.
In addition, the 2015 AWSA Member of the Year Award went to Amber Weigand-Buckley who serves as editor for AWSA’s award-winning magazine, Leading Hearts. 
The Beyond Me Award went to Janet Perez Eckles. The prestigious 2015 Golden Scroll Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Chonda Pierce.
Chonda Pierce served as the keynote speaker with Thelma Wells as emcee. Authors Carol Kent and AWSA founder Linda Evans Shepherd presented the awards. Chonda Pierce also performed a parody written by Martha Bolton dedicated to editors and publishers.

Article One: The AWSA member shall act with honesty, integrity, and professionalism. She shall operate her writing and speaking ministry and conduct her personal life in a way that will honor and not bring shame or reproach to the name of the Lord.
Article Two: The AWSA member shall accurately represent her qualifications and experience in both oral and written communications.
Article Three: The AWSA member shall not engage in plagiarism and shall avoid using materials originated by others, either orally or in writing, without seeking permission of the originator.
Article Four: The AWSA member shall treat other authors and speakers with professional courtesy, dignity, and respect.
Article Five: The AWSA member shall maintain and respect the confidentiality of business and/or personal affairs of fellow members. The AWSA member shall use the Membership Directory in accordance with the purposes for which it was created — including fellowship among members, networking, and professional contacts. However, this precludes use of the Directory for personal profit.
Article Six: The AWSA member shall honor her obligations to other ministries and organizations, as well as community and government.
Understanding that the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association exists for the purpose of mutual edification, education, networking, Christian fellowship, prayer, and support, all AWSA members shall subscribe to the following pledge:
